Volunteer spotlight! Behind every great community is someone willing to step up and make a difference, and today, we’re celebrating Denis!

Over the past year, I have had the privilege of volunteering at Citizens Advice Harlow, training to be an adviser. This experience has become an important part of my life, shaping both my personal development and my future aspirations.

From the very beginning, I was welcomed into a supportive and professional environment. The training process has been both comprehensive and engaging, allowing me to gradually build the knowledge and confidence required to assist clients effectively. Through a combination of structured learning and hands-on experience, I have developed essential skills such as active listening, problem-solving, and clear communication. Each case I encounter presents a new opportunity to learn and grow. As Russian is my native language, I have also been able to assist clients with limited English proficiency, particularly those who speak Russian and Ukrainian, helping to ensure they feel understood and supported.

What makes this experience truly special is the team. The people I work with are not only highly knowledgeable but also genuinely kind, patient, and dedicated. They have supported me at every stage of my journey, always willing to share their expertise and offer guidance. Over time, they have become more than just colleagues, they feel like a second family.

Volunteering at Citizens Advice Harlow has given me the opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the local community. I find great satisfaction in helping people navigate challenging situations, whether it involves housing, benefits, employment, or other issues. Knowing that my work can have a positive impact on someone’s life is incredibly rewarding.

This experience has also influenced my future goals. I would like to continue developing my skills within Citizens Advice Harlow and build a long-term career in this field. Being part of an organisation that stands for fairness, support, and empowerment is something I truly value.

Overall, my journey as a volunteer trainee adviser has been extremely positive. I am grateful for the opportunity, the training I have received, and the amazing people I have met along the way. I look forward to continuing this path and contributing even more in the future.
